Even though some new instruments come set up pretty well from the factory, most manufacturers leave a little room for personal adjustment.  (It is easier to remove a little bit of material than it is to add it back.)  Therefore, with a little personal touch, your instrument can play better, sound better and stay in tune better.

Most new instruments go through a greater settling process during the first three to five years.  You should have your instrument looked at several times during this period.  Humidity and temperature can make the wood expand and shrink, causing the instrument to go out of adjustment.
